Part 6: When Authority Restores Life

Message

  1. AUTHORITY: Authority is contested—Who rules?
    1. The leaders were watching for rule-breaking; Jesus was asking something deeper—who gets to say what obedience looks like? Luke 6:1-2
    2. Jesus reminds them that God’s commands were given to restore people, not just to preserve a system. Luke 6:3–5 (cf. 1 Samuel 21:1–5)
    3. APPLICATION: Let Jesus and His Word, not religious habits or social pressure, define what faithfulness looks like in your life.
  2. RESTORATION: Life is restored—What that rule produces?
    1. Choosing to do nothing when someone is hurting is still a choice. Luke 6:6-9
    2. Jesus cares more about people being restored than about people staying comfortable. Luke 6:10-11
    3. APPLICATION: Move toward need when you see it—don’t wait for the perfect moment or permission.
  3. BELONGING: Covenant Re-formation—Who is gathered?
    1. Jesus forms His people through prayerful calling, not inherited qualification. Luke 6:12-13
    2. The church is not made up of people who have it together, but people who are being transformed together. Luke 6:14-16
    3. APPLICATION: Make room for people who are still being restored—starting with yourself.
