Part 9: Truly Rich

Message

We need a transformation of thinking leading to a transformation of ownership:

  1. We must truly recognize and believe that God owns everything, and we are currently His managers (stewards). Deut 10:14, 1 Cor 10:26
  2. By proving faithful as managers now, recognize that you will soon have true riches—possessions of your own. Luke 16:10-12
  3. Our challenge now is to believe this and live faithful day to day. 1 Cor 4:2

BENEFITS TO LIVING AS STEWARDS:

  1. You can more naturally trust God and know He takes care of His affairs. Mt. 6:25-34
  2. You can recognize that He is in control, and that difficulty has 3 purposes:
    • He is accomplishing His purposes. Genesis 45:5, 8; 50:20
    • He is stretching and developing me in some area. Rom 5:3-4
    • He is disciplining me in love to help me learn something. Heb 12:6, 10-11

CHALLENGES OF GREAT WEALTH:

  1. Money is not sinful; we do not espouse a “poverty gospel.” 1 Timothy 6:17
  2. Protecting and maintaining can become our priorities, and cloud our judgment. Gen. 13:2, 5-7; 19:8
  3. It is much easier to become self-sufficient, forgetting your dependence on God. Mt. 19:23

APPLICATION: HOW TO LIVE AS STEWARDS AND COMBAT WEALTH CHALLENGES:

  1. Prayerfully evaluate your attitude of ownership; do you really see God as owner and you as manager, or not so much?
  2. Give first and more to His Kingdom and His righteousness, laying up true treasure. Ask, “LORD, how much can I give?”
  3. Give thanks more often and intentionally for all of His gifts.
  4. Give your time, talents, and treasures to Kingdom priorities—Gospel and social relief, constantly looking for ways to add value to every situation in Jesus’ name.
