Part 2: God’s Amazing Providence

1. The apparent hiddenness of God does not indicate the uncaring absence of God. Genesis 37
   1. God was present but unseen by Joseph at Dothan, as he is sold into slavery by his brother Judah. Genesis 37:18, 36-37
   2. God was present and seen by Elisha at Dothan. 2 Kings 6:13
2. The sins of the fathers pass down through the generations, but even then, God’s grace is at work.
   1. Jacob deceived his father with the skin of a goat.  Genesis 27:16
   2. Now Jacob is deceived by his sons with the blood of a goat. Genesis 37:31-32, Exodus 34:7, Gal. 6:7-10
3. The trickery continues . . .
   1. Involving sordid sexual sin, with Judah who sold Joseph. Gen. 38
   2. Unlike his brothers and his family history. Joseph is not given to trickery and deception. He is a man of integrity, is tested, and demonstrates the maturity borne of wisdom. Genesis 39-44
4. Things come full circle, and heart transformation is complete.
   1. Judah is now willing to give his life for his younger brother. Genesis 44:14-34
   2. In amazing grace, Judah becomes the line where his distant relative, our older brother gave His life for us. Genesis 49:8-12

1. Cling to Christ, our “older brother” who has given everything for you, even if you can’t see or feel God’s presence; trust He is there and working.
2. All things are under the wise, governing hand of a gracious God who intends final good for His people. Gen. 50:20, Romans 8:28
